And in my opinion, if you have zero say in this, and its never flexible? that's a pretty big red flag! You'll want to make sure to ask about med checks, physicals, well child checks, procedure appointments, gyn visits, transition of care, and acute care visits. I start them one med at a time to make sure they tolerate them, but the goal is to be on 2 within 4-6 weeks! Usually an ARB plus either a calcium channel blocker or tbiazide diuretic. This is based on the new hypertension guidelines that came out in 2025. The curbsiders has a great episode on this, number 321. Do you get longer appointment times when the patient is new to you? This is a question I SO wish I had asked in an interview. When I started seeing patients, they weren't new to the practice. but they sure were new to me. So I had to review all of their charts, and in many cases overhaul how their documentation was in the computer to fit the style I was going to use going forward. This took up a huge amount of time both in and out of the visit! And it would have been massively helpful to have more time for each of these. ##nursepractitioner #primarycare #healthcareworker #interviewtips

Replying to @Wheels I do not change meds based on patient race and the most recent aha guidelines don’t recommend doing that either when managing hypertension! I do avoid ace’s due to increased risk of angioedema. There’s a great curbsiders episode, 321, that reviews a lot of hypertension topics and is a great resource! #nursepractitioner #hypertension #primarycare
